I don’t like them fried but alive, hopping, and noisy. Frogs are everywhere in Bali. Thousands of them live in the rice paddies in the vicinity of Balam Bali Villa. The silent ones are made of limestone in the shape of a fountain sculpture at the pool or represented in a group of four musketeers in the decoration panel at the entrance of Balam Bali Villa.
Frogs and toads croak particularly loud in the night, so loud, that some of our guests believe that we put this music on purpose: “Is that a music with all these cries that we hear? I hope you will turn down the sound after 10pm.”
Well, this is not a record, but a concert of frogs living here and there. There are likely many different species, which are chatting, singing or even having passionate political debates. Then they all stop suddenly at the same time. A soloist resumes the speech followed soon by a choir of protesters. A true cacophony for our human ears!
They are everywhere indeed, jumping or hiding, and the brave ones even reach a room. A cry then emerged from the room, a human sound this time, probably afraid by this unexpected face to face. Our guest takes refuge on the bed waiting for our heroic rescue.
Nobody though has taken a chance to kiss a frog to deliver it from an evil spell and to turn it into the Prince Charming or the Balinese Princess.
