The temple of Taman Ayun and Mengwi

The Taman Ayun temple was built in the 17th century. The wide moat surrounding the temple overflows with magnificent pink and red lotus flowers. The central courtyard is reached by a vast split portal leading through a superb garden to the heart of the temple. It is protected by a low wall permitting a view of the succession of ancient pavilions and magnificent 'merus' erected in honour of the gods of the mountains Agung and Batur.
